The Santa Teresa Foothills Neighborhood Association has been trying to stay actively involved in the planning process for the historic site being planned in the Santa Teresa County Park.  This historic site, while a great asset for the park, is raising some issues as well.  There is some concern that an area that has been used for years by neighbors for hiking, biking, dog walking, etc. will be reconfigured to discourage or forbid those activities.  The next step in the process is the Board of Supervisors Meeting the morning of November 3rd.  Here is an e-mail announcement that the County Parks Department sent out:

At their October 15, 2009 regular business meeting, the Housing, Land Use, Environment, and Transportation Committee (HLUET) of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors accepted the Final Santa Teresa County Park Historic Area Site Plan and Final Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration and forwarded a favorable recommendation to the County Board of Supervisors (BOS) for their final adoption of the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration and approval of the Santa Teresa County Park Historic Area Site Plan project.  The BOS meeting will occur -

The county is in the process of developing a plan for an historic site within the Santa Teresa Park near the corner of San Ignacio Ave and Curie.

The STFNA board is working hard to be sure this area not only represents the history of the area, but also provides better access to the park from the neighborhood.

There are concerns about access to the former Buck Norred Ranch, now the Mounted Ranger Unit. There are residents of the neighborhood near the Mounted Ranger Unit who have concerns about problems caused by increased usage of the park and Coyote-Alamitos Canal next to their houses. Other members of the community are concerned about restrictions on neighborhood access to the park.

Friends of Santa Teresa Park held a special meeting on May 6th, 2004 with a large community turnout. Matt Freeman, president of our Association, attended that meeting along with a follow-up meeting on June 3rd, 2004. There was much discussion back and forth. The areas discussed include Coyote-Alamitos Canal, the Bear Tree Lot, the Pyzak Ranch, Curie Drive, the paddock on Curie and San Ignacio, the Bonetti House, the Buck Norred Ranch buildings, the Mounted Ranger Facility, and the Mine Trail. But at the follow-up meeting, the Park and Rec department presented a solution to move a trail up and around the private property. They indicated they could have it completed this fall.
