Initial plan called for a tent
STFNA works to reduce impact on neighborhood

On April 2nd, the Santa Clara County Planning Commission approved the proposed events facility at the Boulder Ridge Golf Course, which is located at the westerly end of the Santa Teresa Foothills. The STFNA Board of Directors supported this decision because, at the request of the Association and other groups in the Almaden Valley, the applicant undertook a major redesign of the project.

The original proposal was an events tent, which the Association opposed because of the noise impacts from amplified music on adjacent neighborhoods.  The new design replaces the tent with an enclosed building with fixed/unopenable windows that will contain the noise.

This is a significant win-win wherein our concerns have been addressed and the needs of the applicant have also been met.  Thank you for your letters to the County in support of the Association’s position, which ultimately led to the new and improved design!

The County held a meeting March 10th at 7 p.m. at the Almaden Winery to provide information on a revised design for a proposed Events Facility on the Boulder Ridge Golf Course (located at the top of the Santa Teresa Foothills above Foothill Drive.

As many of you know, the Association has had grave concerns over the original design, which was a tent.  The tent would be used for wedding receptions, parties, corporate events, etc.  Amplified music would be permitted and events would be permitted to take place until 2 a.m.  Our primary concern was the effect of amplified music on our neighborhoods.

Due to concerns expressed by our Association and other associations in the Almaden Valley, the applicant has developed a new design would would change the facility from a tent to a building.  This appears to be a significant positive step forward in terms of the applicant addressing our concerns.

On September 4th, 2008 the Santa Clara County Planning Commission considered the request of the owner of the Boulder Ridge Golf Course to construct an outdoor events facility/tent. There was a large turnout of residents from both the Santa Teresa and Almaden Valley areas, all of whom voiced their opposition to the current proposal. As a result, the Commissioners voted to defer further consideration. In addition, the County considered our request for a full environmental impact report (EIR), which would delay things further.

STFNA and the other neighborhood groups offered to meet with the owner of the golf course for the purpose of coming up with a "win-win" solution (e.g., building an indoor facility that would address all of our concerns about the noise from amplified music). All of your letters, e-mails, etc. made a huge difference. Thank you!
